Yuichi Kinoshita
Yuichi Kinoshita was born in 1985, in Wakayama Prefecture. Kinoshita was shocked by a Kamigata-style rakugo performance in his childhood. Based on this initial experience, he became interested in Japanese classical theater. He studied modern theater at Kyoto University of Art and Design. In 2006, he founded the theater company Kinoshita-Kabuki, which performs modern versions of classical theater. In the company, Kinoshita works with stage directors to supervise and supplement the original texts.
His recent work includes Yoshitsune Senbonzakura (2012) and Sanninkichisa (2014-2015). Kinoshita is also active as a writer and lecturer on classical theater, and is also currently working on a doctoral thesis about Tetsuji Takechi’s kabuki. Kinoshita is the recipient of multiple awards and grants, including a Saison Foundation Junior Fellowship in 2014 and the Asahi Group Foundation Subsidy Program (2010-2012).
