Open experiments about dialogue, unfolding in a public space
Continuing on from its previous appearance at Kyoto Experiment in the spring, this research project centers on a team of designers and architects. The earlier version, In search of Kappa, explored urban infrastructure in the Okazaki area of Kyoto through full-scale wooden replicas installed in the courtyard of ROHM Theatre Kyoto. It created a new type of landscape, an open laboratory where normally ignored examples of infrastructure such as power panels and traffic lights became an unexpected place for children to play.
This time, the project investigates the incomprehensible and the inconvenient in ways that go beyond conventional ideas through the theme of dialogue, not only between people but also between inorganic and organic objects, and relationships that transcend time and space. Similarly to spring, at the heart of the project is partnership of a design team UMA/design farm, who handles art direction for Kyoto Experiment, and an architecture unit, dot architects. Harnessing knowledge and perspectives of design and architecture, the project redefines the “dialogue” that we overlook every day to create a forest of dialogue in ROHM Square.
