Surrender yourself to a torrent of video and sound in this presentation of Ryoji Ikeda’s concert works

Paris-based Ryoji Ikeda is an electronic composer and visual artist, internationally acclaimed for his work that focuses on the essential characteristics of sound itself and visualizes this by means of both mathematical precision and painstaking aesthetics. His performance superposition, premiered at Kyoto Experiment 2013, was enthusiastically received by Japanese audiences. Marking a new stage in the composer’s oeuvre, it presented the world of quantum mechanics and quantum information theory from an aesthetical approach.

Returning to Kyoto for the first time in three years, this is an opportunity to experience four of Ikeda's concert works created since 2000 in one comprehensive program. It includes formula [ver.2.3] (2000–), which was made with Shiro Takatani and Takayuki Fujimoto, Ikeda’s collaborators from his time with Dumb Type. The program also features C⁴I (2004–), which explores the multifaceted nature of the data that pervades our world and became a departure point for a later series, as well as datamatics [ver.2.0] (2006–), which presents the critical point of perception in regards to macroscopic and microscopic data, and the Japanese premiere of matrix. In addition, a large screen in the courtyard of the venue shows Ikeda’s new audiovisual installation, the radar [kyoto].
