With this new work, the Brazilian virtuoso Marcelo Evelin turns his attention to the Japanese dance form of Butoh. Drawing on Butoh pioneer Tatsumi Hijikata’s book Yameru Maihime (Ailing Dancing Girl), he deepened his approach through interactions with Butoh dancers and researchers in Japan.

Yudai Kamisato, who has been based in Buenos Aires since last October, wrote this new play and recruited performers locally to stage it in Spanish. It interweaves episodes of migration and death collected by Kamisato on his travels around Oceania, Ogasawara, Okinawa and Latin America.

This year for Kyoto Experiment, researchlight turns to aspects of the city landscape not adequately covered by information on maps. Kyoto attracts many tourists, but people are rarely aware of places and sites not mentioned on maps and tend to pass these by without noticing. This is an attempt to create and install signs drawing attention to such sites. UMA/design farm and dot architects.
