You would feel reluctant to throw it away.
But you also feel a little heavy to keep it.
It’s not just an “object”.
There lies a meaning and responsibility that is special to kimono.

As part of
“YSN STUDIO Thinking About Kimono Through Technology, Design and Art”,
working with the theatre director Hirotaka Fukui who have been creating works focusing on the relationship between “object” and “human”,
we will re-examine our relationship with kimono and try to find how we should relate to it.

Focusing on various actions that happen in the process of wearing kimono,
we converse with our memories and emotions attached to kimono,
and think together about; “what should I do with this kimono?”

– Who bought it and where was it bought? (Where did you come from?)
– Who was wearing it and in what kind of occasions? (Where have you been?)
– What maintenance work do I need to do to make it wearable again? (What do you want me to do?)
– In what kind of occasions should I wear this kimono, with this material, design and form? (Where do you want to go?)
– How much value does this kimono have? (Is there anyone for you?)
– If I store it properly, can my children wear it too? (How old are you?)
etc..
