~When you fell asleep , that bird was~
I make my work focusing on the line between the real and the inexplicable world that appear in my daily life and the sense of suddenly standing on that rift.
Since when I was a child, I am attracted by a kind of “switch” that separates me from the real world. For example, when I was playing with a doll, even though my body was in the real world, it felt like my consciousness was drawn into imagination and was detached temporarily from reality. Even now, in my everyday life, unexpectedly, I am caught by this feeling that I am standing between “here and now” and “somewhere beyond there”. In the daily life, there appear moments in which “here and now” gets slightly distorted; when the wood grain of trees along the street appear as many eyes gazing at me, when standing at the entrance of tunnel where the exit cannot be seen, when birds sit only on certain line of electricity wires, or when hearing the voice of owl from outside the dark window.
I am looking for a switch through which daily actions turn into stepping across the line to another world. By combining oil paintings and dolls visually and spatially, I try to express this vague and uncertain feelings, and to find the signs of distorted reality.
