Kyoto Experiment is one of the few international performing arts festivals in Japan that is public, international and experimental. In 2023 we began the KEX Supporters system which allows anyone to support the festival through direct directions. We are now looking for KEX Supporters for 2024. These donations are vital in ensuring the festival continues; please consider supporting the festival by becoming a KEX Supporter.
The festival has been held annually in Kyoto since 2010 and every Autumn presents a unique program that introduces experimental work from Japan and abroad. Over the last decade it has become known around the world as one of the leading international performing arts festivals in Japan. To date, the number of visitors has exceeded 360,000 and artists from over 27 countries have participated. Despite this, in recent years, the festival has been facing a very difficult financial situation caused by: the knock-on effects of covid, current events in international affairs contributing to a weakening yen and Kyoto City's administrative and fiscal reforms that have resulted in the city's funding contribution to the festival being reduced by nearly half. In 2022 we carried out a crowdfunding campaign for the first time and received an overwhelming amount of support which allowed us to overcome these difficulties and implement the planned program. From 2023 we decided to start the KEX Supporters system with the aim of establishing donations to the festival as one key pillar of the festival‛s core funding. Thanks to our many supporters we were able to successfully hold the festival again in 2023. The opportunity to share and exchange with our supporters has also been a great source of encouragement for all our staff.
Donations from supporters are essential in sustaining and developing the festival‛s activities. We hope you consider supporting the continued creation of experimental performing arts in Kyoto by becoming a KEX Supporter in 2024.

● Priority Ticket Booking. Priority ticket booking is available for supporters however please note reservations can be made in Japanese only.
Please note aside from supporter name listing, benefits can only be sent to Japanese addresses and cannot be sent internationally. However if you live outside Japan, are planning to attend the festival, and wish to collect your benefits, please contact the festival office.
