Kyoto Experiment is one of the few international performing arts festivals in Japan that is public, international and experimental. From this year, 2023, we have decided to start the KEX Supporters system. This is a membership system that allows anyone to provide continuous and vital support to the festival through direct donations.
Held in Kyoto since 2010, each year the festival presents a unique program that introduces experimental work from Japan and abroad. Over the last decade it has become known around the world as one of the leading international performing arts festivals in Japan. To date, the number of visitors has exceeded 300,000 and artists from over 25 countries have participated. Despite this, since last year large cuts to the festival’s core funding have meant the festival is facing a very difficult financial situation. In 2022, we carried out a crowdfunding campaign for the first time and received an overwhelming amount of support which allowed us to overcome these difficulties and implement the planned program. From 2023 we have decided to start the new KEX Supporters system with the aim of establishing donations to the festival as one key pillar of the festival‛s core funding. Those who sign up as a supporter and donate to the festival will receive various benefits such as festival merchandise and invitations to special member only events.
Donations from supporters are essential in sustaining and developing the festival‛s activities. We hope you consider supporting the continued creation of experimental performing arts in Kyoto by becoming a KEX Supporter.
