A civil servant visits a village that has been devastated by flooding. The village is problematic. Its people have mystifying beliefs; they offer him mermaid meat. The civil servant, who has been sent to the village as the vanguard of an invading force, witnesses its people dancing passionately among the ruins. In the center, a girl whirls about.

The group’s previous work Kagura Tale Collection 1: The Faith of Water and Fish depicted the day in the prehistory of some country on which faith was born in people’s hearts. Even before the dawn of society, people who lived amid the absurdity of nature created “mermaidism” as a foundation to rely on. Set centuries later, by which point people have learned to control nature and other people, this work portrays their confrontation with faith and the absurdity that strikes regardless.
