In 2023, I spent two months in the city of Narva in Estonia, which borders Russia. The border ran down the middle of a river, with birds and fish crossing it freely; it was a very peaceful sight. Even though there was a war right next door, people were making and eating food. I recorded conversations I had with locals as we prepared and ate their usual meals in their kitchens. As we chatted casually, fragments of history and social problems started to emerge. This installation consists of videos, photographs, and sculptures made with clay collected in Narva; in a related performance, we will link up remotely with people living on the border, and prepare and eat food together.
