Dreams bound with silken thread Ⅲ
Stringraphy is a unique, contemporary musical instrument made from silk string and paper cups. Rubbing the silk strings makes the cups vibrate and produce sound. Made from organic materials such as thread and paper, the instrument generates sounds that are quite literally a vibration or quiver; it is primal and sacred, evoking a sense of nostalgia and comfort, along with mechanical noise and uniqueness. It creates an enigmatic sound that seems to encompass the entire universe. With strings stretched across the space, the sound reverberates throughout; it delves further and further into those who experience it, into their very depths, resonating profoundly and reaching memories beyond time and space. Perhaps the resonance loosens or tightens the heart’s center; the threads from the silkworm seem to regulate the vibrations of the heart.
The sentiments that reside in the space DANJI, the memories of things from the past, and the people that gather there…
The threads of the silkworm vibrate the space; the threads of the silkworm vibrate our hearts.
