Mayor’s Greeting
2022.7.19
Kyoto Experiment always endeavors to present new forms of art. It is with great joy that I welcome the festival again after the various workarounds it has deployed to continue even in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition to the issues caused by the prolonged pandemic, international tensions have now led to tragedy and divisions in the world. As such, the importance of culture and art grows ever stronger as something that enriches people’s minds and revitalizes us for the future. Moreover, by bringing us into contact and sympathizing with the different kinds of values in the world, an arts festival deepens our understanding of others further, and can also contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and global peace. Of this, I am convinced.
In the city of Kyoto with its diverse and multilayered culture, internationally active and highly individual artists conjure forth this magnificent experiment. Visitors, please enjoy these cutting-edge works that you can only experience here, and the new exchange that emerges from them. I hope that the festival is richly rewarding for all its visitors.
In closing, I would like to thank Fumio Amano and the other members of the executive committee, and everyone involved in the festival.
