Mayor’s Greeting
2023.7.20
I am delighted to welcome the return of Kyoto Experiment, a festival at the cutting edge of the arts.
Now marking its fourteenth edition, the core concept for this year’s festival is maze maze, literally meaning “mix mix.” This ambitious experiment carried out by exciting and dynamic artists here in Kyoto, a city blessed with a highly diverse and multilayered culture, will overcome linguistic or cultural differences to greatly move us all.
Visitors, please enjoy this truly unique array of radical works and new exchange. I hope for the great success of this festival that transcends the barriers that conventionally separate artists and audiences.
In March, as part of its efforts to strengthen how it functions, the Agency for Cultural Affairs relocated to Kyoto, making our city a capital of culture both in name and reality. We are determined to enrich people’s lives and rejuvenate the whole country through the power of culture emanating from Kyoto, where culture and art permeate each and every corner of the city.
In closing, I would like to offer my thanks to Fumio Amano and the other members of the executive committee as well as everyone else involved in the festival for all their tireless efforts.
Daisaku Kadokawa
Mayor of Kyoto
