Kyoto Experiment 2024 Full Lineup Announced!
2024.7.18
Kyoto Experiment is a performing arts festival held in Kyoto since 2010 and this year marks our 15th anniversary! We invite radical artists from Japan and abroad to present work that transcends genres such as theater, dance, music, and visual art. Dedicated to imagining, producing and sharing experimental performing arts the festival aims to explore and create new dialogues and values in society.
The festival’s key phrase for 2024 is ētto ētto (an everyday Japanese phrase meaning ‘um’ or ‘er’ in English). We hope this phrase can be used as a key to accessing new perspectives on our lineup of experimental performing arts from around the world. When we try to recall something or engage in conversation with others, we often use ētto ētto as we gather fragmentary thoughts and memories and turn them into words. It fills a gap and is a phrase used when thinking or searching for something. It might also be a word for bridging the space between ourselves and others while connecting memories and dialogue. We unfold the festival with this key phrase with the hope of connecting the past & present and others & ourselves while weaving our next words.
The festival consists of three programs: “Kansai Studies,” a program that researches the Kansai region, where the festival is rooted, and aims to cultivate a foundation for future creation; “Shows,” a lineup of experimental performing arts and exhibitions from around the world; and “Super Knowledge for the Future [SKF],” a series of talks and workshops that explore the relationship between experimental performing arts and all kinds of different topics beyond the world of art.
The lineup of artists participating in the festival are as below. Please note detailed information on our website is currently available in Japanese only. Information in English will be available on our website from Friday August 2nd at 12:00.
