“Wound and Ground is an on-going project by the choreographer Hokuto Kodama since 2022. Starting from the physical action of continuously pressing the ground, it is an attempt to face and physicalize the uncertainty that surrounds us since the Heisei period.

This particular performance/event will take place at CLUB METRO, the mecca of Kyoto underground culture, as a completed form of the project.

Crackdowns of night clubs in the 2010s according to the Act on Control and Improvement of Amusement Business, was a symbolic case of the power controlling the body that disobeys the discipline. We are bound not only by the power but also by the internalized moral and discipline, and are taken away a path to escape or resolve the insecurity that stems from the sense of no-where-to-go.

The physical action of continuously pressing the ground happens as if driven by the sense of insecurity, but also by trying to escape from such insecurity, and it covers our sight with both intoxication and clarity. When you know, you are pushed back to the ground. You have no control. It feels like never ending.

When you find a scab covering the wound and the ground, you peel it off quietly, then you begin to faintly hear the heartbeat.
