(LA)HORDE × Rone with the Ballet national de Marseille
Room with a View
A wild, frenzied mass collides and
leaps into a united front to question the future
Pursuing their concept of “post-internet dance,” (LA)HORDE urgently and insatiably incorporate contemporary culture into their work, and have continued to receive countless calls for diverse collaborations from big names and brands such as Madonna, Spike Jonze, and Burberry. Hailing from different fields, the three members of the collective have collaborated with Rone, a leading figure in French electronic music, and the Ballet national de Marseille (of which the (LA)HORDE members are directors) to create Room with a View, a hymn to liberation.
The setting is a marble quarry in an apocalyptic landscape. Carved out in one section is a white room where a rave party is about to reach its climax. As the hedonism comes to an end, the frustration and sadness the young people are burdened with erupts into violence, and couples eventually end up hurting each other in desperation. As they stand amid the carnage, they gradually start to acquire gestures of solidarity and resistance.
The surging energy emanating from the Ballet national de Marseille’s nineteen dancers from eleven countries inextricably intertwines with Rone’s music that runs throughout the piece. What shape will the hope (LA)HORDE reveal to us take?

(LA)HORDE
Marseille (France)
Founded in 2013, (LA)HORDE is a collective of three artists: Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, and Arthur Harel. Together they challenge the codes of various artistic disciplines, particularly within performing arts and contemporary art. Their exploration of the new dynamics of circulation and representation of dance and the body that develop online led them to work on the concept of “post-internet dances”. Since 2019, they are artistic directors of the Ballet national de Marseille and create choreographic works, films, video installations, and performances that focus on the body in movement. (LA)HORDE questions the politics of dance and maps diverse choreographic forms of popular uprising, from raves to traditional dance to jumpstyle. Through diverse formats, (LA)HORDE questions the almost infinite serendipity that this new territory provides and proposes multiple perspectives on the uprisings of the communities they work with in a heterarchical way.
