Pre-festival Talk 2: What Geist teaches us about experimental music today
Kansai-based Koshiro Hino continues to develop his powerful and experimental practice through his work with Goat and YPY, in addition to composing for Kodo Taiko Performing Arts Ensemble over the last few years. He also directs Geist, a live concert that fully immerses listeners in a multiplicitous sonic space. As we listen to Geist’s music in the theater, we interview production members about the significance and diversity of experimental music in today’s world, as well as the directions it is heading in. Kyoto Experiment has presented various projects involving experimental music, following its trends as the instruments, equipment, music formats, genres, and listening methods have become more complex over time. This is an opportunity to delve deeper into ideas about music as a performing art and the ambitious experimentation taking place in this world.
