Pre-festival Talk 1: About Tanz
Florentina Holzinger’s Apollon, which was screened at Kyoto Experiment 2021 Spring, astounded audiences with its outlandish representations of the female body. Holzinger’s major work TANZ, which follows Apollon, finally has its Japan premiere at this year’s festival, and to mark the event we are holding a talk that focuses on the work’s themes, from the gaze on the female body to how to disrupt fixed values. We welcome guests Simone Fukayuki, a pioneer within the Japanese drag queen scene, and editor Tetsuya Ozaki, who has a wide perspective ranging from contemporary art to the performing arts. TANZ tends to garner attention for its radical expressions, but we hope this talk presents an opportunity to analyze the work from diverse viewpoints.
