“Ghada: Songs of Palestine” Screening × Lecture on Gaza and Modern and Contemporary Palestinian History
A documentary film screening and lecture to learn about Palestine through it’s culture, history and politics, and raise awareness about the genocide currently happening in Gaza. Expert in Arabic literature and postcolonial thought, professor at Waseda University and author of What is Gaza?, Mari Oka gives a lecture. This is followed by a screening of journalist and documentary filmmaker Mizue Furui’s Ghada: Songs of Palestine which depicts an intimate portrait of Palestinian woman Ghada Ageel, born and raised in a Gaza refugee camp. Furui follows Ghada over twelve years from the age of 23 to 35, following various milestones in her life as well as her growing awareness of her Palestinian identity. The screening is followed by a short talk between Oka and Furui.
