CARCAÇA
Get ready for a fired-up performance courtesy of a diverse group of dancers and musicians, staged here in its Japan premiere!
This will mark the first performance in Japan for up-and-coming Portuguese choreographer Marco da Silva Ferreira. Ten dancers and two musicians dance with great energy onstage, belying the title (which means “carcass” in Portuguese). The performance intricately weaves together folk dances with contemporary dance styles from various communities, including the LGBTQIA+ community and former European colonies. Through the vigorous dancers’ bodies, it grapples with group identity and memory, and with cultural constructs.
