Kyoto Student Theater Festival 2024

Since the pandemic, student theater companies have faced various crises around issues such as the transmission of skills and the decreasing number of performers. However, the power of theater—of people coming together with the aim of creating something, then presenting the completed work to still more people—can surely continue to hold relevance even in 2024, at a time when all kinds of content are widely available.

Kyoto Student Theater Festival, which was set up to address the question, “Where can Kyoto’s most interesting student theater companies be found today?”, will hold this year’s edition around the theme of “re-entry” into plays.

Kyoto Experiment co-director Yoko Kawasaki will serve as a jury member. ＜The Kyoto Experiment Award＞ will be given to a production and group that have striven to create, through an exploratory approach, an experimental work unbound by any preconceptions.
