Puppet Play for A Shell’s Diary is a performance work consisting of small clay puppets, video diary and the artist’s narration.

I have been making lecture performances based on diaries that I daily create. On the other hand, in recent years, I am working on making small clay puppets. Strating from those two types of practices and from my personal experiences, for this performance, I am constructing a story narrated by both the puppets and the artist.

In this performance, by having puppets as the representation of something/someone, the personal experiences gradually change to a narrative. This is an experiment on how one’s life can be turned in to a comedy and regarded as a great joke by crossing daily records and fiction, and by re-telling one’s joy, worries and trivial events.

Born in Japan in 1987. Began filmmaking after starting a video diary during the COVID-19 pandemic. Explores expressions where personal perspectives intersect with universal questions like “Who am I?” In 2023, began producing lecture performances using video diaries, creating and presenting works focused on the boundary between fiction and documentary through motifs of alter egos, masks, and puppets.
