This is the first work of “Anshin-peace of mind” project, which aims to find the original interpretation of the word “anshin-peace of mind” through the presentation of series of works with the word re-defined in each presentation. For this first work, the creation started with the word “anshin-peace of mind” defined as a “way of mind that can confront the world”. The “world” here is not an “abstract world” but a “physical world” that is not yet given any meanings. In the course of making the work, I realized that “being able to confront the world” can be re-phrased as “being able to independently assign meanings to the world”. However, between those two phrases, I think there are two differences: the “distance between the world and oneself” and the “thickness of ideas necessary to sustain certain conditions”. By focusing on those differences as we make the work, it is expected that we will re-discover the ideas that we hope the word “anshin-peace of mind” to carry, or to make a piece of theatre that can be part of such ideas.
